April 5 - 6. TITAS Presents Pilobolus in Shadowland 2. Pilobolus is inventive, imaginative, trippy and enormously entertaining. In 2009, Pilobolus created Shadowland, the first show of its kind, which has been performed in 32 countries, for over a million people, including Dallas. Now, Pilobolus is proud to present an all-new shadow adventure, Shadowland: The New Adventure. Pilobolus uses its trademark “shadow dancing” and inventive storytelling to tell a love story about two people and their quest to save a magical bird. With animation, video, and live shadow theater, this madcap adventure dips its toe into science fiction, film noir, and romantic comedy. April 5 - 7. Focal Pointe presented by Chamberlain Performing Arts. This mixed repertoire production features Chamberlain Performing Arts company dancers in several stirring works. Each show is highlighted by guest artists Texas Ballet Theater. Being performed are contemporary tributes to fathers and grandfathers. "Veni Emmanuel" is a tribute to Artistic Director/Founder Kathy Chamberlain's father. Choreographed by Lisa Hess Jones (former NYCB soloist), this beautiful work has been led by current Rockette Brittany Werthmann. Company member, and senior, Amit Katz makes her choreography debut for Chamberlain with "The Last Breath", music by Hildur Gudnadottir. This beautiful tribute to her late grandfather has been an emotional outpouring for Amit, and her fellow company members are dedicated to honoring her cherished memories. Bombshell Dance Project's Emily Bernet and Taylor Rodham have choreographed "One Fell Swoop" which makes its debut at Focal Pointe. This powerful modern work is guaranteed to inspire and motivate. Alumna Katie Martin has poured her heart into "Green Valley", music by Alt-J, as a cathartic expression of recent experience. April 12-13. Ballet Frontier presents A Midsummer's Night Dream, a ballet based on William Shakespeare's play. April 12 - 13. Dallas Black Dance Theatre presents Rising Excellence. DBDT: Encore! Dr. Lorenzo "Rennie" Harris is known for going outside the box to choreograph hip-hop works fusing Shakespearean narrative with hip-hop vocabulary while mixing hip-hop music with rock, modern, and classical sounds. The Nancy A. Nasher & David J. Haemisegger Family SOLUNA International Music & Arts Festival commissions a new work for DBDT: Encore! by emerging choreographer My'kal J. Stromile. Boston Ballet II dancer Stromile, a graduate of both Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing & Visual Arts and The Juilliard School, creates a work influenced by ballet, stretching beyond the classical form.
