When awarded a musical theatre scholarship I was at
first nervous, having only been in one musical,
but I'm glad I didn't let that interfere. The experience was unforgettable!
I was told I had to sing; small problem I don't
sing and I definitely didn't feel comfortable singing in front of all those
people! To my surprise, the music teacher later complimented me,
saying I have an amazing head voice and can sing in octaves other girls cannot. To this day I still don't fully understand! From him
I learned how to properly use my voice, something again that I have
never done before! He also taught me how to feel more comfortable
singing with an audience!
It
blew me away that we were able to put on a musical in only 3 weeks and it
still be a successful show, similar to the professional one! I will
never forget all of the special memories I shared with the other
Dance Council recipients. Working with people
who share the same interests made the experience enjoyable!
In the upcoming year, I will use my newly found appreciation
for theatre to better myself for auditions of the future! I wish I could return to the camp next year, but
sadly, I exceed the age limit!
Sincerely, Whitney Robertson
