IDA SAKI 18 Dr Dan Pickard & Rosie Kimple Scholarship

Ida Saki, born and raised in Plano, Texas, at the ripening age of only 18 has already achieved accomplishments that people only dream of. Not only has Ida won countless awards, including five national titles, most recently being the 2009 New York City Dance Alliance Outstanding Dancer of the Year, but she has also graced the cover of the October 2009 issue of Dance Spirit Magazine. The National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts has recently awarded Ida with the Silver Award in Modern Dance, and she is now nominated for Presidential Scholar in the Arts. Being a part of Repertory Company I, a student at Booker T. Washington HSPVA, and a member of a pre- professional company at Dance Industry PAC, Ida dances 45 hours a week, in all styles, yet professing in modern and jazz.

Summer intensives play a huge role in dancer’s growth, especially Ida’s, as she is known to be a “sponge” and obtains all information she receives. All in all, Ida could not survive without dance, and she plans to do it the rest of her life, and the training for her future has already begun but will take a large step this upcoming summer.

Ida is determined in changing the dance world, bringing a new color to the art form by sharing her passion for it, along with her story-telling movement. Dance, being her primarily language, allows Ida to communicate with her audiences and share all that she has to say through movement. She is very grateful for all of the opportunities she receives and never allows one to cease, therefore, creating bright future ahead of her. In the future, Ida would love to attend a dance conservatory to continue her training and plans to join professional dance companies such as Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. Later, she plans to move to Europe and dance for companies such as Nederlands Dans Theatre and Batsheva Dance Company. After dancing, she plans to continue her passion of dance through choreographing and teaching across the country.
