JIA SUN 17
Nathalie Krassovska Memorial Ballet Scholarship
Nutcracker photos by fate photography
Jia Sun
was born in Shenyang, China. She began dancing at the age of five and went to live at the Liaoning Ballet School at age seven where she studied for six years. Upon graduation at age 13, Jia sent a video to the Harid Conservatory and was accepted to attend their year round program.
Although it was difficult to leave her family, s
he chose to leave China to study ballet at the conservatory in Boca Raton, Florida. High school in America is difficult, but it has been a happy learning experience.
Jia will be attending San Francisco Ballet this summer. Her dream is to be a professional dancer and to dance in an American ballet company.

I had a wonderful time at San Francisco Ballet School summer intensive. The teachers are amazing there— I learned a lot from them. The classes are really different than my school, everything had to be on pointe, but I liked it; I feel I am getting stronger and better. The most interesting class for me was partnering class. We got rehearse Grand Pas Classique and Stars and Stripes. I really enjoyed it and I am really glad I got dance those pas de deux.
Thank you very much to the Dance Council of North Texas for giving me the opportunity by selecting me for the Nathalie Krassovska Memorial Ballet Scholarship. I had a wonderful summer at San Francisco Ballet. I hope I can attend again next year.
