Victoria Skillings [14]  Gene Pflug Scholarship




Victoria attended the Soul 2 Soul Tap Festival this past summer where she focused on learning new styles of tap, specifically “energetic character down beets.” Victoria’s main focus, however, is on Hip Hop; she would love to participate on So You Think You Can Dance and eventually dance on Broadway. Her great stage presence allows her to “show people how much fun I’m having.”

Thank you so much for selecting me for the Gene Pflug Scholarship. This scholarship allowed me to attend The Annual Soul to Sole Festival in Austin, Texas.  I would also like to thank my tap instructor, Katelyn Harris Thompson, for her encouragement to apply for the dance council scholarship. Katelyn's instruction and love for tap, inspires me as a dancer and as a person.

While attending Soul to Sole, I had the pleasure of taking classes from Jason Janas, Acia Gray, Dianne Walker, Heather Cornell, Bril Barrett, Arthur Duncan, Matt Shields, and Barbara Phillips. These classes were educational, fun and entertaining. Each tap legend brought their unique style and personality to the classroom. One of my favorite classes was taught by Jason Janas. He always comes up with amazing combinations to challenge his students.

I also enjoyed performing my solo at the participant showcase.  Soul to Sole tap festival is for anyone that enjoys great instruction and with a fun environment.
