Chloe Nix 16 ~ Margaret Rylatt Tap Scholarship
Chloe is a 16 year old dancer from Waxahachie. Dancing, art, and all of our 20+ animals have a special place in her life. Chloe is a home-schooled eleventh grader with a love for tap dancing. She is a member of the S.A.L.T. Education Coop.
This love for dancing was obvious from her first dance classes as a four year old at Judy Pelusi’s Desoto Dance Academy. Chloe is a student of all forms of dance, but has shown a special interest in tap and hip hop. She’s been dancing competitively for four years and has been awarded scholarships from the Monsters of Hip Hop, Break the Floor, and the Broadway Dance Center.
Chloe joined the Drawbacks Youth Tap Ensemble (DYTE) five years ago to study and dance with Katelyn Harris and Keira Leverton. The Drawbacks have given her the opportunity to learn the history of tap dancing, including the many traditional dances, and to study with some of today’s top tappers. Chloe’s studied with Lane Alexander, Buster Cooper, Barbary Duffy, Jason Janas, Tasha Lawson, and Barbara Phillips, among others.
Chloe has performed her tap solo at the Dance for the Planet. With the Drawbacks, Chloe has performed at the Dallas City Arts Festival, Everything on Tap, Chicago Human Rhythm Project – Student Showcase, Dallas Summer Musicals Hoofin’ Crew, Sammons Center Centennial Celebration – 100 Tappers, and on Good Morning Texas. Chloe has also appeared in the Drawback’s productions of Zombie Follies, Love Out Loud, and Dracula’s Bed & Breakfast. This year, she is choreographing the tap number for the Dallas Powerhouse junior performing company. And Chloe appears daily, tapping in line at Starbucks, up and down the stairs, while emptying the dishwasher, and on the back porch.
