Sergio Tapia Fikes 19 ~ Dr Dan Pickard & Rosie Kimple Scholarship

Sergio hails from Dallas, Texas, and is currently entering his third and final year at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. Sergio has had the fortune of performing works by Larry Keigwin, Robert Battle, Dwight Rhoden, Shannon Gillen, and others during his time at Booker T Wahington High School for the Performing & Visual Arts and NYU. He is attending the 2012 Hubbard Street Intensive this summer and looks forward to the following year and what it will bring.

Sergio will be graduating this coming year, and plans to continue to develop relationships with choreographers and companies in the city, as well as the country and abroad. After graduation he plans on dancing with a Repertory company. He is open minded and also has an interest of freelancing with several companies in NYC.

Sergio does not know the specifics of next year and the opportunities that will present themselves, but does know he will be dancing and continuing his journey as an artist.

.................................

Attending the Hubbard Street Summer Intensive was incredible. One of the most valuable aspects of the program is that all the faculty either dance with the company, have danced with the company, or fall under one of the following: rehearsal director, artistic director. Having teachers who are so able and currently dancing professionally is an invaluable experience. I learned so much from watching the teachers and the way they speak about dance is so articulate. What I feel I developed during my time at Hubbard Street and will continue to develop is artistry. I worked on being dynamic and very expressive with movement. This makes dance much more interesting as a dancer and a viewer. Increasing the range of what you are dancing so that it is not one note, but has several different levels and energies. I would most definitely recommend the
Dr. Dan Pickard & Rosie Kimple Scholarship. It made an incredible summer possible.
